REC

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is the professional association representing the UK’s dynamic recruitment industry, which is now worth £24.8 million annually to the economy.

The REC is committed to promoting and maintaining professional standards within the industry and now has a membership comprising 8,000 businesses and nearly 6,000 recruitment consultants.

Businesses in corporate membership must adhere to a Code of Professional Practice while individual members sign up to a Code of Ethics. Both Codes have been developed to ensure jobseekers and employers receive the highest possible standards of recruitment service.

Individual Members now enjoy a range of services exclusively tailored towards their professional development through increasing their professional knowledge, skills and status enabling them to stand out from the crowd in recruitment.

Corporate members are also being encouraged to register their staff as Individual Members because it demonstrates their level of commitment towards investing in what is seen as the key benefit – the recruiters – to this fast-moving industry.

The REC has been at the forefront of developing ground-breaking services for the industry such as its Diversity Pledge which won the CBI Trade Association Forum’s first ever Social Initiative Award last year.

It is also a member of CIETT, the International Confederation of Employment Agencies and its European counterpart, Euro-CIETT.

The main objectives of the REC are:

  • To raise and maintain the recruitment industry’s standards and reputation. This it has done by “raising the bar” on membership by introducing stringent entry criteria leading to adherence of best practice procedures
  • To offer and deliver, in support of these standards, a wide range of vocational training including two industry-recognised qualifications, in-houses courses, seminars and continuing professional development for all members
  • To represent and promote the interests of REC members and all those working in the recruitment industry. This is achieved through lobbying on their behalf at Parliament, Whitehall and the European Commission, as well as to the press, stakeholders and opinion formers
  • To provide an essential and unique portfolio of support services and products to members. These include a legal and HR helpline and access to up to date, robust research relating to the industry and a comprehensive programme of events.
  • To meet the needs of members through a network of 12 groups representing specialist sectors of the industry such as IT & Comms, Drivers, Childcare, Education and Construction; also through active representation across 13 regions through regional directors who ensure the services provided by the REC best serve the needs of certain areas.

Marcia Roberts, Chief Executive Officer of the REC, said: “We are all committed to driving standards forward in this industry because this will in turn open new commercial opportunities for those agencies able to demonstrate to clients that they are committed to the highest levels of professional achievement.

“At the REC, we regard Archant’s awards as an invaluable way of both recognising those who have achieved and as a perfect example of a thriving partnership between the industry and suppliers.

“We would like to thank the organisers at Archant for their continuing commitment and support to our industry through these prestigious awards and look forward to working together on such excellent events in the future.”
